Changes to Earning and Spending Miles

Royal Orchid Plus program changes announced in April will take effect on 01 October 2019 enabling our valued members and customers to earn more miles and attain or retain top tier status faster. Spending miles will feature wider Award travel options and enhanced online service for instant booking and ticketing.

By taking a few moments to review the upcoming changes to earning and spending miles you’ll be well prepared to maximize your membership in Royal Orchid Plus with more benefits, privileges and rewards.

Earning Miles

Mileage accrual with THAI is more closely aligned with paid fares and associated booking classes. The new earning structure provides more miles referring to below classes of service, depending on the paid fare.

Actual miles flown plus class of service miles will continue to be Qualifying Miles that determine Royal Orchid Plus tier status.

*Platinum and Gold status members earn 500 minimum miles on all THAI and THAI Smile operated flights. For THAI and THAI Smile flights less than 500 miles in distance Silver and Basic members earn 200 minimum miles.


New Tier Status Miles

Having and aspiring to Platinum, Gold and Silver status will be even more rewarding with new Tier Status Miles earned on each qualifying international THAI flight.

* Tier Status Bonus Miles are not Qualifying Miles that determine membership status within the Royal Orchid Plus program.

Tier Status Miles are earned according to the tier status with each flown flight. These additional miles are calculated on top of actual miles flown and any applicable class of service bonus miles. As an example one way travel between Bangkok and London with actual miles of 5,928 would earn the following tier status miles.

Spending Miles

Award Charts have been simplified and consolidated for ease of use online availability. THAI Air and Upgrade Awards and Star Alliance Awards are all in geographic zones.  New Award Charts and mileage requirements are effective for all booking and ticketing from 01 October 2019 onwards


THAI Air Awards

THAI Air Awards consists of 2 Award Charts.


1. International and Domestic Awards

This Award Chart is used for direct point to point travel for domestic and international travel with THAI and THAI Smile. The new zone based chart states mileage requirements for one-way travel, for roundtrip travel double the stated miles are required. Mixing of class of service is permitted with mileage requirements applied according the class of service redeemed on each sector. View new Award Chart click here.


2. Between Thailand Domestic and International Destinations (connecting in Bangkok)

This Award Chart is used for international Award travel with THAI or THAI Smile to depart from or arrive to any domestic destination with a connection in Bangkok.


For example, international outbound travel from Thailand (Phuket-Bangkok-London), or international inbound travel (Tokyo-Bangkok-Chiang Mai). Stopovers in Bangkok are not permitted, travel must continue to the final destination on the first available flight


Mixing of class of service is permitted. However, the mileage for the highest class of service in each direction will be applied. View new Award Chart click here.


Beyond Bangkok: THAI and Star Alliance Awards

This Award Chart is used for multi-sector international travel with THAI and THAI Smile, and for travel across the Star Alliance network with THAI and Star Alliance partners, or solely with Star Alliance partners.

The chart consists of 12 geographic zones. To determine destinations in each zone, please refer to the Star Alliance geographic key link.

Mileage requirements are for one way travel, for roundtrip travel double the stated miles are required.

Mixing of class of service is permitted. However, the mileage for the highest class of service in each direction will be applied. View new Award Chart click here.


THAI Upgrade Awards

The New THAI Upgrade Award Chart is in geographic zones that align with the THAI Air Award Chart. The booking class of the original purchased ticket determines the number of miles required for a one way upgrade.
